Elian Dupre Sarmiento has been selected to receive a $100.000 Schulich Leader Scholarship to study Engineering at The University of Calgary.
A graduate of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy in Canmore, Mr. Dupre Sarmiento will be entering Engineering program this Fall. Mr. Dupre Sarmiento was selected by Mr. Targa and Mr. Arvisais for his outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements. This is the 2nd Nominee to win a Schulich Leader Scholarship at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy.
“Schulich Leader Scholarships are the largest STEM scholarships in Canada. With 50 outstanding students selected in Canada each year it is all but guaranteed that this group represents the best and brightest Canada has to offer. These students will make great contributions to society, both on a national and global scale. With their university expenses covered, they can focus their time on their studies, research projects, extracurriculars, and entrepreneurial ventures. They are the next generation of technology innovators,” says program founder Seymour Schulich.
"When I first heard the news, I was ecstatic! It was always a dream of mine to become a Schulich Leader. The networks, connections, and prestige it offers will allow me to focus on projects that fuel my entrepreneurial spirit. I'll be able to concentrate on contributing to extracurricular teams and participating in unique work opportunities. I'm also excited about the new possibilities the University of Calgary will offer. It's an excellent university with fantastic opportunities for engineering. None of this would have been possible without the support of my parents, peers, and mentors along the way. I have dozens of people to thank for this, and I can't wait to get started at the University of Calgary as a Schulich Leader this coming fall," he said.
This is the second graduate from Our Lady of the Snows to receive this prestigious scholarship in three years! Alina Arvisais received $80,000 from the Schulich Leaders Scholarship.
About Schulich Leader Scholarships Canada
Schulich Leader Scholarships are prestigious entrance scholarships awarded to 50 high school graduates enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) undergraduate program at 20 partner universities in Canada. Each year, every high school in Canada can submit one Schulich Leader Nominee based on academic excellence in STEM, entrepreneurial leadership and financial need.
Recognizing the increasing importance and impact that STEM disciplines will have on the prosperity of future generations, businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich established this $100 million scholarship fund in 2012 to encourage our best and brightest students to become the next pioneers of global scientific research and innovation.
